Kazaa on trial - an expert witness perspective

The recent ruling by Justice Wilcox in the Australian Court about
Sharman Networks, the distributor of Kazaa Media Desktop, made news
around the world. Justice Wilcox found that Sharman Networks was guilty
of authorising copyright infringement. This talk will give a
perspective of this interesting and important case from one of the
expert witnesses. It has been estimated that each side spent almost $10
million on the case.
About Professor Leon Sterling
Professor Leon Sterling holds the Chair of Software Innovation and Engineering at
the University of Melbourne, where was formerly Head of Department.
Following a PhD in computational group theory from the Australian
National University, Leon was a postdoc at the University of Edinburgh
and at the Weizmann Institute. He then spent 10 years at Case Western
Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, before joining the University of
Melbourne in 1995.
Professor Sterling has been active in the overlap of the areas of
Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering over the past 20 years.
He has a strong background in logic programming, best known as the
co-author of the classic book The Art of Prolog. His current research
focuses on agent-oriented software engineering.
