Security enhancements in Windows XP SP2

Elliot Gingold and Kevin Nguyen 2005

Microsoft Windows XP SP2 aims to deliver a more secure desktop environment with improvements relating to network security, e-mail handling, memory protection, web browsing and computer maintenance. Due to the significant rewriting of code and introduction of new security features, the Information Division established the Windows XP SP2 Project to help identify the impact of SP2 within the University environment. In this presentation, an overview of the project and its findings will be presented along with an outline of the resulting set of documentation that has been designed to assist with the deployment of SP2. Part of the presentation will then go on to cover in greater detail some of the other important features of the Service Pack that were not included in the original Project Scope . It is hoped that by the end of the presentation, Windows XP administrators will have a better understanding of the Service Pack, it's underlying technologies and also it's impact within their local network environment.
