Using NESSUS for vulnerability scans

Amy Corman 2004

This hands-on workshop will use the nessus security client (www.nessus.org) in a lab of linux and windows computers to scan for security vulnerabilities.
It will cover:

  • Introduction - What is nessus?
  • Installation overview - How do I get my own working version of nessus?
  • Typical uses - Now that I have nessus, what do I do with it?
  • Plugins - What if I want to scan for something else?

Please bring the IP address of one computer that you have permission to scan to the workshop (note: scanning could disrupt the normal function of this computer, so don't pick anything important).
